The modern attack surface: managing risk with Rapid7
A look back at our recent in person technical workshop
We recently brought together IT and security professionals for an immersive, hands‑on deep dive into the modern attack surface: managing risk with Rapid7, and what a day it turned out to be.
From the start, the room buzzed with curiosity, collaboration, and a shared mission: to better understand today’s evolving cyber risks and learn how to take control of their organisation’s exposure. Led by Longwall’s Beau Ingram, Mat Cornish and Nick Griffiths, the workshop blended strategic insight with practical, real‑world application, giving everyone the chance to explore InsightVM, Surface Command, and other key Rapid7 technologies in an interactive way.
A day of learning, labs, and live demos
The morning kicked off with a guided look at the modern attack surface, how it’s expanding, why it matters, and what organisations can do to stay ahead. From there, we moved into live demos that visualised real‑world exposure, helping attendees see their attack surface in a whole new light.
Hands‑on labs gave everyone the opportunity to get stuck into the tools themselves, experimenting with dashboards, scanning capabilities, and risk‑prioritisation workflows.
And then.. the games began
Of course, no great workshop is complete without a bit of fun, and our Longwall cyber security game delivered exactly that.
Teams went head-to-head, discussing and making strategic decisions to protect their fictional organisation, before defending against cyber attacks, the last team standing being crowned the most resilient.
A collaborative, insight‑driven experience
What made the workshop truly special was the atmosphere. Attendees didn’t just absorb information, they connected, debated, experimented, and shared real experiences from the front lines of cyber security. The collaborative setting created space for honest conversations and practical takeaways that teams took back to their organisations.
“There’s a bit of sharing war stories, what works, what doesn’t… we all realise we face the same risks and the same challenges.” said attendee Stacey Close, Head of cyber security and business resilience at Simplyhealth, in response to what was his motivation to attend this workshop. He went on to say “working with experts at Longwall Security you get to understand are we using the tech in the right way? is it really adding the value that we’re paying for?”
Until next time…
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. Your engagement, questions, and enthusiasm made the day a standout success.
